New Year's Canteen, A flat faience canteen with a belly resembling two flattened spherical segments joined at their edges; a smooth tape-like band runs along the joint. The thin neck ends with a spout shaped like an open papyrus cup. Small handles on both sides of the neck are shaped as stylized monkeys baboons. The upper part of the belly is decorated with an impressed, stylized design resembling a necklace. 664–525 BC; Late Period, 26th Dynasty, Egypt. Vessel; height 12.3 cm, width 10 cm, depth 5.7 cm., A round, flat vessel with a short neck and flared rim, shown against a plain light gray background; the vessel surface is textured and predominantly green with areas of lighter and darker green and small patches of tan and brown; near the neck there is a decorative band in darker blue-green tones forming a semicircular pattern with repeated vertical strokes; the neck has a pair of small, symmetrical protrusions on either side and the rim shows slightly darker edging in muted green and brown.
