Fragment of a stamped amphora vice, Cephalion ca. 260–205 BC. Fragment of a Sinopean amphora vice with the stamp of the astynomeus Leomedon son of Epidemos and the manufacturer Cephalion. A four-line rectangular stamp on the upper surface: first line the astynomenic title; second and third lines the astynomeus' name and patronymic; fourth line the manufacturer's name in genitive. 2nd half of the 3rd century BC; Sinope origin; Myrmekion Crimea finding. Stamp, vice; height 6.8 cm., A roughly cylindrical, broken clay object sits on a flat surface, showing a textured, somewhat porous exterior with irregular edges and chipped areas; the clay appears in shades of beige, tan, and light brown with darker brown speckles, and there is a small patch of frayed fabric stuck to one side in pale off-white and beige tones; the background and surface are smooth and gray, and a soft shadow in darker gray lies beside the object.
