Fragment of a spout and vice from a Sinopean transport amphora with a three-line stamp depicting the head of Heracles and the Greek inscription When Demetrios was astynome made by Mithradates. The spout is a not very massive roller bent outward. The vice is oval in cross-section, slightly flattened. The first line of the stamp contains the astynomic titulary; the second names the astynomeus Demetrios I in the generic form; the third names the manufacturer Mithradates in the nominative. Head of Heracles facing left. Hellenistic period, 280–270 BC. Sinope origin. Stamp impressions; Sinopean stamp. Height 7.1 cm, width 5.3 cm, depth 9.3 cm., A curved, broken ceramic fragment rests against a smooth grey background; the fragment is a sandy beige color with darker brown and black speckles and a few reddish-brown smudges, showing a rough, porous texture and irregular edges where it has broken. The surface includes an indented rectangular area and shallow impressed marks, and one end of the fragment has a thicker, flared rim with a jagged, broken profile while the opposite side tapers more smoothly. Shadows beneath the object create a slight contrast with the background.
