Canopic urn lid in the shape of a human head, Lid of a canopic urn for tomb equipment, associated with the Sons of Horus. Characterized by extremely subtle modelling typical of the Amarna and early post-Amarna periods 2nd half of the 14th century BC: delicate, aristocratic facial features, sfumato around the eyes, and a wig with stripes of varied texture. Dated c. 1350–c. 1295 BC, New Kingdom, end of the 18th Dynasty, Egypt. Materials/measurements: canopic urn lid; height 8.2 cm, width 8.6 cm, depth 9.2 cm, weight 1.124 kg., A roughly dome-shaped carved object sits against a dark gray background, appearing to be made of a translucent stone with a polished surface. The object shows a range of pale colors including beige, cream, off-white, light tan, and hints of warm brown, with subtle banding and veins of slightly darker brownish-orange. The surface texture alternates between smoother, glossy areas and more irregular, crystalline patches that catch the light, and there are vertical fluted grooves encircling the lower portion. The base is darker, muted brown, and the object casts a soft shadow on the surface beneath it.
