Aryballus lekythos. An aryballus lekythos on a ring-shaped, profiled foot, with a bulging, egg-shaped belly, convex handles flowing into a neck terminating in a cup-shaped rim. The vise is narrow and band-like. At the base of the neck is a bar ornament, and on the handles is an egg-shaped motif with plastic lines in ovals. Below the vise are two upward-facing palmettes, arranged one above the other, decorated with leaves and volutes. The front of the vessel depicts a seated, nude woman wearing a garment covering her legs and hips; she faces left with her head turned right. Behind her is a leaning, winged Eros, standing on his right leg with his left leg raised, holding a necklace in his outstretched hands. The composition is framed from below by an egg-shaped motif. The body of the vessel features a painted scene in orange-brown and white against the black, showing a winged figure in orange-brown reaching toward a white-clad figure, with decorative scroll and floral motifs between them. The neck and shoulder show orange-brown detailing and wear, and the base and rim reveal the underlying orange-brown clay where the black slip is chipped. The visible colors are black, orange-brown, white, and gray in the background.
