Red-figure pyxis with an image of a hand on the lid. Small pyxis with a lid. Cylindrical shape, separated foot, concave bottom. Flat lid with slightly protruding edges. Rounded sides. Depicts a hand on the lid. Toilet vessel, Greek ceramic. 5th century BC, Attica possibly Arsinoe/Athens., Technology: Glossy, high-quality varnish, evenly distributed but unevenly fired; green shades visible in places. Smooth surface; cleaned clay. Traces of turning visible under the varnish. Admixtures: mica. Condition notes: Intact. White deposit visible on inside surface of the lid. Secondary losses and abrasions visible. Weight: 0.10 kg., A cylindrical container with its lid placed beside it occupies a neutral background; the container and lid are primarily black with visible worn areas showing a brownish-orange underlayer, and the interior of the cylinder appears dark. The lid features a depiction of a hand in brownish-orange against the black surface with some lighter worn spots, and both pieces show scuffs and chips revealing lighter edges. The background is a light gray, and there are subtle shadows beneath and around the objects.
