Red-figure pyxis with an image of a hand on the lid. Small pyxis with lid; cylindrical shape, separated foot, concave bottom. Flat lid with slightly protruding edges; rounded sides. Image of a hand on the lid. Technology: Glossy, high-quality varnish, evenly distributed but unevenly fired, green shades visible in places. Smooth surface; cleaned clay; traces of turning visible under the varnish. Admixtures: mica. Condition: intact; white deposit visible on the inside surface of the lid; secondary losses and abrasions visible. 5th century BC, Attica; Arsinoe findspot; Athens place of origin. Pyxis vessel. Weight 0.10 kg., A short cylindrical object with rounded top and bottom edges sits against a plain light gray background, the object showing a dark surface with worn areas revealing brown and tan underneath, and small patches of lighter beige wear; the top and bottom rims are slightly raised and glossy with a mix of black, dark brown, and hints of tan, while the central band has a more matte dark charcoal or black appearance with subtle horizontal striations and a few tiny lighter spots.
