Chalice krater. Numerous gluings on the foot and the upper part of the body and rim; at the joints there are modern impressions and additions, the rim is partially filled. Varnish has been painted over in places to conceal the repairs. Black-figure krater decorated with a band around the center of the body featuring a vine leaves and clusters painted in pink and gold. Rim decorated with an egg-shaped motif showing traces of gilding. 5th century BC, Attica. Cup krater krater, vessel. Height 56.7 cm; width 36 cm with vices; foot diameter 22 cm; weight 7.3 kg., A large, tall vase with a flared rim and two curved handles sits against a gray background; the vase shows a glossy black surface with worn areas revealing a tan clay beneath, a decorative band of delicate vine-and-leaf motifs encircles the upper body in a lighter tan color, the rim edge has a series of small carved or incised semicircular patterns in tan, the handles curl outward and upward and are black with patches of wear, the foot and base show substantial tan areas where the black finish has chipped away, and faint hairline cracks and small scratches are visible across the surface.
