Vessel with a belly in the shape of a satyr's Silenus's head, unknown Pergamon workshop. A flat-bottomed Roman pottery vessel with a plastic belly in the shape of a Silenus's head, a funnel-shaped spout, and a vertical ribbon handle curved into a circle. The Silenus's head has horse ears and an ivy wreath with flowers above the forehead. The face has a low, wavy coiffure, small eyes with thin, slender eyelids and marked irises and pupils, a short broad nose, chubby cheeks, and a narrow closed mouth. Much of the face is covered by a beard and mustache parted in the middle and arranged in twisted locks with curled ends. Orange clay, 2nd century, Pergamon; vessel; H 13.6 cm, W 9.6 cm, D 10.5 cm; weight 0.246 kg., A weathered clay jug sits against a plain gray background, showing a rounded body with a narrow neck and a single sturdy handle that arches from the rim to the shoulder. The surface shows irregular patches of worn and flaking material, revealing variations of warm tan, light brown, and darker rust tones. There are shallow carved or molded decorative motifs around the midsection and lower shoulder, including a raised looping design at the front and a band of repeated leaf-like impressions encircling the body. The rim appears slightly uneven and the base shows signs of abrasion, with subtle shadows beneath the jug indicating it rests on a flat surface.
