Oinochoe in the shape of a woman's head, Greece, ca. 450 BC, Attica. Oinochoe wine jug shaped as an elongated female head, classic Attic head type from the second half of the 5th century. Yellowish clay with orange surface and, in places, shiny black engobe; some elements painted white. Upper part and headdress covered with black engobe; a white olive wreath on the headdress. Neck outlined at the base with a black band. Oval eyes outlined in black; hair parted and falling in waves to ear level. Headdress flows into a narrow neck ending in a wide, cup-shaped spout. A cylindrical vice handle attachment is attached vertically between the rim and the back of the head. Preservation condition: missing engobe in some places, damaged surface., A worn ceramic vessel photographed from above showing a round opening and a curved handle, with a mottled surface in black and tan and areas of exposed terracotta brown; a rim and decorative flaring at one side in a natural clay brown; the background is a uniform gray.
