Orientalizing aryballos with a depiction of Hermes, and the Sirens, Otterlo Painter c. 580–570 BC. Globular aryballos with a wide rim and a low neck; foot poorly defined. Decoration covers entire body; radial ornament on shoulders. Main decorative field bounded by two thin lines of varnish. Walking Hermes, holding a spear between two sphinxes. Precise engraved modelling with many details; wings of the sphinxes and some body parts covered with red retouch. Small amount of large infill ornamentation. Outer surface of foot covered with varnish; bottom decorated with concentric circles. Technology: matte varnish. Notes: full form but glued; surface contaminated; visible chips and cracks. Clay color: 10 YR 8/3 very pale yellow. Varnish color: 7.5 YR 2.5/1 black. Red color: 10 R 4/3 weak red. Attributed to Kamila Nocon, c. 570 BC, Corinth. Type: aryballos, vessel. Height 11.7 cm; diameter 11 cm; weight 0.280 kg; foot diameter 6.5 cm; spout diameter 5.5 cm., A rounded ceramic jug with a single handle and short neck sits against a neutral background; the jug is primarily beige with black-painted decorative motifs, including a large black birdlike figure with detailed feather patterns on its body, a humanlike head attached to the bird with facial profile and hair outlines, several black linear bands encircling the neck and base, a floral motif on one side, and areas of surface wear showing lighter beige and some darker brown spots on the painted areas.
