Black-finned pyxis decorated with vine, Greek ceramics, plant motifs, 275–250 BC, Athens, Attica; pyxis vessel, weight 0.16 kg, height 8.3 cm, diameter 8.5 cm., A rounded lidded vessel with a bulbous body and flared rim, shown against a neutral gray background. The object is predominantly black with decorative metallic gold painted motifs forming bands and scrolling patterns around the lid and upper and middle sections. The lid is domed and sits on a slightly overhanging rim, with visible wear where the black surface has been scuffed to reveal lighter underlayers. The body narrows toward a small foot, which shows areas of discoloration and surface abrasion in brownish and off-white tones. Overall the visible colors are black, metallic gold, brown, off-white, and gray.
