Bull-headed protoma, vessel decoration, unknown Urartian workshop; protoma, bull heads iconography, Eastern Gaulish Scenography. Stylized bull's head with linear details β large convex eyeballs surrounded by a straight line; two horizontal lines mark the nostrils. Small, protruding ears plastically modeled; schematically chipped horns slightly curved upward. Neck slightly elongated with a triangular bulge at the front. Rectangular cutout at the rear bottom for mounting the protoma on the rim of a cauldron. Typical Urartean cauldron decoration. 8thβ7th century BC Urartu, ca. 850β585 BC. Near East; Urartu. Weight 134 g., A small sculpted object shaped like an animal head, shown in profile against a light gray background, with a smooth, worn surface that is predominantly reddish-brown with areas of darker brown and hints of greenish-blue patina; the head has a pointed ear, a rounded snout, a carved circular eye detail, and a tapered lower portion, and it is mounted on a pale, translucent support that appears white.
