Stucco mask. Fragment of a sarcophagus mask left cheek, nose and left eye inlaid with white and black glass. Sarcophagus mask; masks, faces. Roman period, 2nd century; Egypt. Height 9.7 cm; width 11 cm., A sculpted fragment of a face shown in profile against a gray background, carved from a pale stone with an uneven, weathered surface; the visible portion includes a prominent nose, an eye with a dark circular center surrounded by lighter tones, and the suggestion of a mouth and cheekbone, with patches of darker brown and tan discoloration and rough texture across the pale off-white surface, and some subtle gray and beige variations in the stone.
