Jug, excavations at Nea Paphos Cyprus - equivalent, Cyprus. Cypriot pottery, Bronze Age Cypriot White Painted I. Jug with a large, oval and flattened belly, an indistinct foot, sloping shoulders, a low and narrow neck with a thickened outer edge of the spout. A small, cylindrical vertical handle, attached to the shoulders of the vessel and to the spout, protrudes slightly above the upper edge of the spout. Orange-cream clay with cream engobe. Painted geometric decoration in brown: on the neck are zigzag bands of three parallel horizontal lines between each band the highest at the edge of the spout. Body decorated with vertical stripes bounded on both sides by lines; at the centers of the sides a single-line zigzag; between them two zigzags with a grid pattern four meshes wide. At the bottom, a continuous horizontal line intersects the lines delimiting the fields. Condition: slight loss at the rim; surface heavily worn and decoration poorly preserved in many places. Dated 1800–1650 BC, Middle Cypriot period II–III, Cyprus; vessel., A rounded ceramic vessel with a short narrow neck and small rounded lip, shown against a plain gray background, with a matte, sandy beige surface that has areas of pale peach and light tan; the vessel bears several faded decorative bands and lattice-like brush patterns in muted brown and gray, with scattered small darker speckles and blotches across the body, and a slightly rough, weathered texture visible on the surface.
