Tombstone of Marcus Julius Sistus with bilingual inscription, unknown Roman workshop, sepulchral funerary architecture, Greek inscriptions, Latin inscriptions, imperial freedmen. Rectangular marble slab with very irregularly worked back surface; front bears traces of numerous auxiliary lines vertical and horizontal into which three lines of Latin text and three lines of Greek text are rather unevenly inscribed. Date: after 14 AD–end of 1st century 1st century. Place of origin: Italy, possibly Rome. Slab: height 42 cm, width 56 cm, depth 5 cm, weight 29 kg., A rectangular stone slab with carved grooves forming rows of shapes, showing a pale off-white to light beige surface with areas of darker beige and small brown discolorations, and a few faint gray marks and hairline cracks; the slab has slightly rounded top corners, a chipped lower left corner, and a small triangular nick at the lower right edge; the carved lines create recessed letterlike forms in a regular, evenly spaced arrangement across the front, and the background behind the slab is a smooth gradient of gray.
