Double herm with heads of Apollo, unknown Roman workshop; sculpted Roman marble herm; subject: Apollo myth.; herm form; Roman sculpture, Antonine period 138–192 CE, Roman Empire 27 BC–476 CE; sculpture; height 67 cm, width 27 cm, depth 24 cm, weight 85.5 kg., A weathered stone sculpture showing the backs of two human heads joined at the back, each head turned slightly outward so profiles are visible on either side; the heads have carved curly hair with swirling locks, and the upper portion of the stone shows textured, eroded surfaces and rounded contours. The central area between the heads features a vertical recessed channel with a rough, ridged texture. The lower portion of the sculpture widens into a blocky base with uneven, chipped edges and pitted surfaces. Visible colors include pale beige and off-white in the stone, with areas of light gray and subtle darker gray discoloration, and small patches of yellowish-brown. The background behind the sculpture is a smooth gradient of medium gray.
