Portrait of a Young Man, Unknown author. Head of a Young Man, also known as a Barbarian. The figure's face is carefully modeled—slender with pronounced cheekbones, no wrinkles, and a smooth forehead. The eyes, large in relation to the rest of the face, are carefully crafted with marked irises, pupils, and slightly drooping upper eyelids. The eyebrow arches feature detailed sculpted hair. The mouth is closed in a slight smile. The nose is damaged. The face is framed by long hair with a fringe falling over the subject's forehead. The head is set on a massive neck. 2nd half of the 2nd century, Roman Empire 27 BC–476. Sculpture; height 34.5 cm, width 26 cm, depth 25 cm., A marble sculpted head of a young person with detailed wavy hair carved to fall around the forehead and sides, showing textured grooves and layered locks in shades of white, beige, and light brown; a smooth, pale face with subtle discoloration and weathering, closed or blank eyes, a slightly damaged nose, and a calm, neutral mouth; the neck rests on a dark, polished stone base with veining in deep red and black tones; the background is a uniform pale gray.
