Corinthian capital, Sacred and Roman architecture; Corinthian capital similar to kalathos capitals. 2nd century, Roman Empire 27 BC–476., Materials and form: 3 rows of acanthus leaves, all similar with wavy surfaces, divided by deep, softly bending grooves veins to the sides; leaves rounded with edges divided into lobes. The upper edge of the kalathos is visible above the leaves. An abacus with extended corners composed of two plates of almost equal height. A round hole on the upper surface of the capital—probably a trace of contemporary mounting; a similar hole in the base. Great softness of modeling of details; flakes separated by holes. Weighs 133.5 kg. Tags/ornament: acanthus, rosettes., A carved stone column capital with ornate acanthus-like foliage and volute shapes sits against a plain gray background; the stone shows a weathered surface with a mix of light gray, off-white, beige, and subtle brownish tones, and the carving features rounded leaf forms, curled tendrils, perforated details, and layered fluting that create a sense of depth and texture.
