Corinthian capital, Sacred/Roman architecture; architectural element and decorative capital, 2nd century, Roman Empire 27 BC–476. Corinthian similar to kalathos capital with three rows of acanthus leaves; all leaves similar, wavy surfaces, divided by deep, softly bending grooves veins to the sides, rounded with lobed edges. Upper edge of the kalathos visible above the leaves. Abacus with extended corners composed of two plates of almost equal height. Round hole on the upper surface probably trace of contemporary mounting and a similar hole in the base. Great softness of modeling of details; flakes separated by holes. Rosettes present. Weight 133.5 kg., A carved stone capital with a weathered surface showing a group of acanthus-like leaves and spiraled volutes; the piece is primarily off-white and light gray with subtle beige and darker gray discolorations, and it sits against a smooth medium-gray background.
