Red-figure hydria, Southern Italy Apulia. Hydria vessel, 330–320 BC. Black glossy engobe, some elements painted white. Red-figure hydria on a high, profiled foot with slightly sloping shoulders; narrow neck widening toward a wide, flat rim rolled outward and decorated with vertical-line ornamentation. Three handles: two vertical below the shoulders and one horizontal from the rim to the shoulders; palmettes next to the handles. Frontal belly scene: a woman seated on a rock, wearing a long chiton; in her right hand she holds two flowers, in her left a kalathos and a wreath. Behind her a plate lies on the ground, and in front of her a rolled-up cloth hangs., The image shows a single ceramic vessel with a rounded body, a narrow neck that flares into a flat rim, a single curved handle, and a small pedestal foot. The surface features painted decorative motifs including spirals, curving leaflike forms, and bands of patterns. Visible colors include terracotta orange, black, dark brown, and lighter beige accents, with some pale areas of wear. The background is a smooth, neutral gray.
