Sarcophagus mask. Sarcophagus mask with a preserved face, the middle part of a wig, and a false beard. The eye modelling emphasizes the convexity of the upper eyelids and eyebrow arches. The nose is small with a slight hump. The lips are full with a carefully crafted hollow where the lips meet. The cheeks are modeled quite flat. The wig, pulled over the forehead, reaches almost to the eyebrows. A false beard with a curved end adheres to the chin. Face height: 13 cm. The polychrome is preserved only fragmentarily: slightly larger fragments of yellow paint with the plaster base survive around the mouth; in the inner corners of the eyes and on the side of the face; traces of blue remain on the chin. The back of the mask is flat, with three holes containing fragments of pegs. Date: 16th–7th century BC; New Kingdom–Third Intermediate Period. Place of origin: Thebes, Egypt. Type: sarcophagus mask.
