Amphora, unknown Gazan workshop Gaza Strip place of manufacture, amphorae, LRA4 amphorae, transport vessel, storage vessel. Large LRA 4 amphora of a spindle-shaped form, almost cylindrical in the central part. Arms hemispherical; lower part conical and flat-topped. Rim weakly accentuated, rounded, with slightly thickened edge. Two loop handles placed in the upper part; lower parts reinforced by clay underpinning. Ceramic fabric probably contains limestone inclusions particles visible on surface. Outer surface beige-orange, upper part covered with soaked clay to obtain a rough surface. Ribs visible in upper and lower parts; deep grooves in the bottom part. Interior coated with black resin impregnation, some of which has leaked onto the shoulder. Near one handle, a small, barely visible Coptic inscription in black ink; a large inscription in red paint runs along the vessel. Previously compared with published amphorae of the same type from Edfu. Dated 4th quarter of the 6th–7th century. Find location: Edfu. Vessel type: amphora. Height 75.3 cm; rim diameter 10.0 cm; body diameter 23.6 cm; base diameter 2.5 cm., A tall, elongated ceramic vessel with a narrow pointed base and a rounded top is displayed against a plain gray background; the vessel shows a smooth surface with visible repaired cracks and surface irregularities, a small handle-like projection near the top, and layered horizontal striations; the coloration includes shades of tan, beige, light brown, reddish-brown, and hints of pale orange.
