Painting circa 1921 by Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (1863 – 1930) showing the Founding Fathers around a table drafting the US Declaration of Independence in 1776. Benjamin Franklin is sitting left, reading a draft of the Declaration, John Adams is seated in the centre and Thomas Jefferson is standing on the right, holding a feather pen and paper. The location is Jefferson’s lodgings on the corner of Seventh and High (Market) streets in Philadelphia. Franklin, Adams and Jefferson were three of the members of the "Committee of Five" appointed by the Second Continental Congress to draft the Declaration (the other two being Robert R Livingston and Roger Sherman).
