In addition to the many artistic and honorary awards such as the French Legion of Honour, and the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Cleveland State University, Vasarely, on May 17. 1978. will receive a Certificate of Distinction from New York University. These honorary distinctions have been awarded not only for his art. but, for his inspiration and involvement in aesthetic architechtonic and urban problems. His dedicatation to these universal concerns led him to establish a socio-cultural foundation in Aix-en-Provence for the study of the integration of plastic beauty at all levels of the urban environment. He speaks of democratizing the art object and is very much dedicated to the problems of the cities. His ideal is to achieve universal accessibility of art Planetary Folklore'.
