Thimphu Dzong is situated in the capital and is the seat of government as well as being a monastery. The secretariat, throne room, offices of the king and the ministries of home affairs and finance are all located here.
It is only possible to visit this Dzong after 5 p.m. on a weekday when the King whilst in office has finished his affairs of state.
The monk body spend the summers here and migrate to Punakha Dzong for the winter months due to the more temperate climate there.
