An orchestra rehearses on stage before 17,376 sloping empty seats in the famed Hollywood Bowl that is named for a natural amphitheater created by the Hollywood Hills in Hollywood, California, USA. An awning protects the musicians from the sun during their daytime practice. This semicircular shell above the stage dates to 1929, and shows large white spheres that were added later to improve acoustics. A new, slightly larger shell was installed in 2004. This outdoor showplace is home to the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic and hosts other musical events throughout the year.
