A Member of the KKK stands next to cross lighting in Rumford Me during rally in the small town Maine town. The Klan had been active in Maine in the 1920's and 30's , This group of Klansmen openly invited the press to observe ,photograph and report on this event photo by bill belknap

This small group of Klansmen put on a show for the press. Even set up a little souvenir stand with klan dolls greeting cards etc and a majority of members of the press actually purchased items from them. I was taken aback by the hypocrisy of my fellow journalists essentially giving money to the klan.
