'The Descent from the Cross', 1633-1634, (1967). Aftermath of the Crucifixion. The figure on the right is probably Nicodemus, who received permission to bury Christ's body. In the left foreground Mary faints on the ground. A man at the top of the picture grips the cross with one hand as he holds the winding sheet in the other. Rembrandt depicted himself, as a soldier in blue, standing on the ladder and helping to hold the body. Painting in the Pinakothek, Munich. From "Rembrandt" by Ludwig Münz and Bob Haak, [Harry N.
