Gorton Mills, Lancashire, 1909. 'From raw cotton to complete costume. As the world-centre of the manufacture of cotton, Manchester has made its name and its products known in the four corners of the globe. At Rylands and Sons' Gorton Mills, near Manchester, containing 1670 looms and employing 1350 hands, are manufactured the firm's Dacca calicoes, sheetings, twill, and jeanettes to the extent of 300,000 yards per week.'
