Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite from Ashness Wood, Lake District, c1955. With Skiddaw and Lords Seat in background. Lake in North West England, surrounded by hills (known locally as fells). Derwent Water's primary inflow and outflow is the River Derwent, which also flows through Bassenthwaite Lake before reaching the Irish Sea. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. A regular passenger launch takes tourists between the various sites of interest.
