The 'marble-paved' pedestrian street, Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, c1955. The Stradun or Placa, whose name derives from Venetian, and means "large road" or "wide road", is the main street of Dubrovnik - historically also known as Ragusa - in southern Dalmatia, Croatia, by the Adriatic Sea. The limestone-paved pedestrian street runs some 300 metres through the Old Town, which, with its outstanding medieval architecture and fortifications, is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.
