Old House, Palace Yard, Lambeth, c1883. Row of shops in south London. 'This Picturesque old house, opposite to the Palace [Lambeth], is probably part of an old Inn.' Description by Alfred Marks. Signs read: 'William Barnwell, Turnery Manufacturer; [Outward ?] Working Men's Club, open every evening at 7 o'clock - Entrance First Door on the Right; Shaving 1d; Madame Tussaud's - The Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone'. Posters advertise a firework display and an autumn fruit and cut flower show at the Crystal Palace. Note wooden strut supporting the building, with an advertisement for the Weekly Times newspaper.
