Old Houses, Aldgate, c1883. Shops in east London. In the foreground is a cart belonging to the London and North Western Railway and their agents Pickford & Co. At this time goods traffic in Britain was rapidly increasing and with the onset of the railways, the carriers Pickford & Co. were to form a business link with the LNWR which continued until 1901. Shops: Marco Polli, Café Restaurant; Gattis Chocolate - Tea & Coffee - English & Foreign Dinners Always Ready; C.W. Butler, Importer of Foreign Cigars & Tobacco - Taddy's Celebrated Snuffs; Yankee Pride.
