Students at work in the Antique School. Women drawing plaster casts of sculptures at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, late 19th-early 20th century? Female students were not at first permitted to draw from 'life', ie nude models, on the grounds of moral propriety. It was not until 1893 that they were allowed to draw from the male model - and then only if he was wearing a voluminous length of fabric thoroughly wrapped around his bathing trunks.
