Approval of the rule of the Order of Minor Clerics, 1738. Pedro Rodríguez de Miranda received the commission to paint the canvases for the convent of the Order of the Minor Clerics through Father Aller, a Minor Cleric closely linked to the Royal Palace as confessor to Infante Don Felipe, fourth son of Philip V. Pope Sixtus V approved the Order in 1588; the Rules had been presented to him on July 1 of that year. Cardinal Alessandro Peretti (1571-1623), the Pope's nephew and the Cardinal of Montalto, played an important role as mediator in the approval process. It has been suggested that the four prelates who formed the committee that studied and discussed the Rule - Cardinals Sanseverino, Castagna, Lancelotti, and Giustiniani - are represented among the prelates surrounding Sixtus V.
