Don Alfonso the Wise, after having won the city of Cádiz from the Moors, the first maritime stronghold possessed by the kings of Castile, took possession of the sea to open the way for the Christians that would lead them to Africa, 1866. In 1262, after the conquest and expulsion of the Muslims from the city of Cádiz, King Alfonso X 'the Wise' ordered a banner with the cross to be planted on the waters of Cadiz beach to symbolize his control over the ocean that separates the Iberian Peninsula from Africa and the empire of the Christian religion over Islam.
