Légende
Salus infirmorum, 1896. Scene painted from life inside the parish church of San Miguel de Pajares in Asturias. The humble spirit and faith of the peasant carrying his child are embodied in his bowed head and the fact that, as a sign of respect, he has removed his boots, revealing his white stockings. Salus Infirmorum is a Latin phrase meaning Health of the Sick, primarily eternal health and salvation - salus means not only health but also salvation.
