Luther: Subject Taken from a "Dream of Hell" by Quevedo, 1858. German Protestant reformer, priest and theologian Martin Luther (1483-1546) is shown chained to a rock in Hell. Naked women writhe and claw at him. "Los Sueños" (Dreams or Visions) is a satirical prose work by Spanish Baroque writer Francisco de Quevedo (1580-1645). It was first published in Barcelona in 1627. "Sueño del Infierno" (The Vision of Hell), is one of five sections, each describing a satirical dream vision of the next world.
