The Resurrection of Christ, 1534. The resurrected Christ stands triumphant beside the sarcophagus that held his body for three days after his death on Golgotha. The Roman soldiers who guarded the tomb display different reactions, from carefree sleep to astonishment and flight. The dark cave on the left contrasts with the luminous vision of the landscape, bathed in a lyrical dawn light.
