Saint James the Less, 17th century. The saint holds his attribute, a Fuller's Club, which symbolizes the manner of his martyrdom. He was supposedly beaten to death with a club after being thrown from the roof of the Jerusalem Temple. In his left hand he holds part of the Apostles' Creed: Credo in Spiritum Sa[n]ctum, san[c]tam E[c]clesiam catholicam, (I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church).
