Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony, 1827. Portrait of Maria Amalia of Saxony, Queen of Spain. Fragment of the Landing of Ferdinand VII at the Port of Santa Maria (Cadiz) with the portrait of Maria Josefa Amalia of Saxony (1803-1829), Queen Consort of Spain (1819-1829) and third wife of Ferdinand VII, displaying the sash of the Order of Maria Luisa and of Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal and, on her shoulder, the insignia of the Order of the Starry Cross. She died of fever aged 25, on 18 May 1829, leaving her husband heartbroken. The painting from which this fragment comes depicts the encounter between Ferdinand VII and the Hundred Thousand Sons of Saint Louis, French troops under the command of the Duke of Angoulême, on October 1, 1823, in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), upon his return from exile, which brought an end to the Liberal Triennium (1820-1823). The work was probably partially damaged in the fire at the Supreme Court (Palace of the Salesas) on May 5, 1915. The fragments were acquired by the Marquis of Cerralbo at the Rastro flea market in Madrid.
