Portrait of Isabella II of Spain (1830-1904), 1850-1900. Portrait of Queen Isabella II, daughter and heir of King Ferdinand VII, and mother of Alfonso XII. Isabella, who would have been twenty years old at the time, wears a blue satin gown adorned with silver lace. Her hair is styled in an updo, covering her ears, and she wears a diadem of large, brilliant pearls from which a veil hangs. At her neckline she wears a pearl necklace, matching her bracelet. Partial copy of the original full-length portrait by Federico de Madrazo, painted in 1850 for the Palazzo di Spagna in Rome, the seat of the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.
