Alfonso XIII of Spain, 1902. Alfonso XIII (1886-1941) was born 6 months after the death of his father Alfonso XII. He was King of Spain from his birth until he was dethroned in April 1931 - he fled the country and the Second Spanish Republic was peacefully proclaimed. He wears the uniform of a Captain General, consisting of a dark blue coat with a matching collar and cuffs, embroidered at the collar and with three rows of embroidery on the cuffs. He has gold epaulettes, white knitted breeches, and black riding boots. A crimson silk sash with gold tassels and three gold clasps adorns his shoulders. Hanging from his shoulders is the Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and on his chest is the Grand Cross (baton and sash) of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Ferdinand, of which he was Sovereign. His right hand holds white gloves, and his left rests on the hilt of a sabre with a gold braid lanyard.
