Twilight (reduced version of figure from the tomb of Lorenzo de' Medici, San Lorenzo, Florence), 1524-1531. Plaster cast of one of the sculptures in the Sagrestia Nuova (also known as the New Sacristy and the Medici Chapel) designed by Michelangelo and built in 1520. Lorenzo de' Medici (1449-1492) was an Italian statesman, de facto ruler of the Florentine Republic, and the most powerful patron of Renaissance culture in Italy. The figures of Twilight (or Dusk) and Dawn adorn his tomb.
