Portrait of Peter the Great on his Death-Bed, 1725. Peter I (1672-1725) was the Tsar of all Russia from 1682 and the first Emperor of Russia from 1721 until his death aged fifty-two in 1725. An autopsy revealed his bladder to be infected with gangrene.
