Rhymney ironworks, Mid-Glamorgan, South Wales, 1880s. Bute (west bank) Rail and Fishplate Mills from east. The four tall structures in the background are four Whitwell hot blast stoves behind (Nos. 4, 5 and 6 blast furnaces, to right, obscured by smoke), southern gable of southern block of fitting shops on extreme right (north), and Rhymney Railway in foreground. Bute Works, Rhymney was established in 1825, had its first Bessemer converter in 1877 and closed in 1891.
