Arch of Constantine, Rome, c1858. Triumphal arch dedicated to the emperor Constantine the Great. It commemorates Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 AD/CE. Jane Martha St. John (1801-1882) was an early English photographer who made over 100 photographs in the late 1850s when travelling with her husband in Italy.
