Unprotected cruiser 'Arturo Prat', 1883. Built by Armstrong Whitworth & Co Ltd (Elswick, Newcastle, England) for the Chilean Navy. Its construction began in 1879, during the War of the Pacific, being launched in 1880. Because of the conflict, the warship was not delivered to Chile. The Imperial Japanese Navy took over the contract for its acquisition, being renamed Tsukushi, arriving in Japan after its shakedown cruise from England on June 16, 1883.
