Légende

Demolition of the Pyramid of Roncesvalles after the occupation by French troops, War of Roussillon, also called War of the Pyrenees or War of the Convention, (1793-1795), 1851. Conflict between the Spain of Charles IV and the First French Republic. It was an ancient monument that the tradition of those places venerated for the defeat, true or fabulous, of the French in that valley under the emperor Charlemagne. In memory of that event, the Spaniards had erected a pyramid on the battlefield. The army of the Western Pyrenees, having won a victory over the Spaniards, avenged this ancient humiliation. From "Historia del Levantamiento, guerra y revolución de España by the Conde de Toreno", Madrid, 1851.
